A Look Back at 2009 and Spoken Cafe
For some of our students, 2009 does not feel like a long time ago. But things were very different then! In 2009, the phone in the picture above was the newest mobile phone, and millions of people used it.
At that time, the Dollar was 1.45 TL, and a quarter gold coin was about 80 TL. People still used the new Turkish Lira (YTL), but many called it “a million Lira” because they remembered the old money.
In 2009, people could still smoke in public buildings, restaurants, and cafes. That has changed today.
At the movies, some big films were popular. These included Avatar, Up, and Angels & Demons.
Technology in 2009 was not as good as it is today. But Spoken Cafe was ahead of its time! Even then, our followers could watch our sessions online and ask questions during the live broadcast on our website.
Spoken Cafe is always working to build its system and make it better. We started at a different time, but we keep improving every year.
